Make A Bequest
Leave a Gift in your Will for Australia’s threatened native plants.
By leaving a gift to the Australian Network for Plant Conservation (ANPC) Inc. in your Will, you’ll be helping to protect Australia’s amazing native plant diversity for future generations and leaving behind an extraordinary legacy.
Leaving a gift in your Will of any size makes a real difference, and helps give threatened plants the best possible chance of surviving – and thriving – well into the future.
Thank you for considering a bequest to the ANPC. To find out more about leaving a bequest or to discuss how your gift will be used, please contact us.
How to leave a gift in your Will to the ANPC:
- Discuss your wishes with your family. If you’re planning to leave a gift in your Will to the ANPC, it’s important to discuss this with your family so that they are aware of your decision.
- Use a solicitor. Your Will is an important legal document and to make sure your wishes are acted upon, correct wording is essential. We recommend seeking independent professional legal advice when preparing or updating your Will. Writing your own Will can create challenges for those left to handle your estate, so engaging a solicitor is the best way to ensure that your Will is valid and that your estate will be distributed as intended.
- Choose what type of gift you’d like to leave in your Will, which can inlcude:
- Entire Estate
– Leaving the whole of your estate (all of your assets) to the ANPC is the largest and most generous gift you can make.
- Residual gift – After all expenses and claims have been paid, you can leave all, or part, of the remainder (residue) of your estate to the ANPC.
- Percentage gift – You can nominate a percentage of your entire or residuary estate to leave to the ANPC.
- Specific gift or asset – You can leave a specific item of value to the ANPC, such as property or shares. Please note: this gift requires the advice of legal professionals to ensure no Capital Gains Tax is incurred.
- Cash sum – You can leave a specific sum of money to the ANPC in your Will. Please note: the value of cash gifts can decrease over time with inflation
4. Use our recommended Will wording. To ensure your solicitor is including the ANPC in your Will as planned, you can provide them with the following sample wording:
“I make this gift free of all deductions to the Australian Network for Plant Conservation Inc. (ABN: 70 861 480 818), Clunies Ross St ACTON ACT 2601. I direct that my gift be applied for the general purposes of the Australian Network for Plant Conservation Inc. and I direct that the receipt of the Treasurer or other proper officer of the Australian Network for Plant Conservation Inc. shall be a sufficient discharge to my trustees.
I nominate the Australian Network for Plant Conservation Inc.to receive…. (see above for gift examples)”.
5. Notify the ANPC about your plans. Once you have included the ANPC in your Will, please let us know so that we can recognise your generous gift during your lifetime. To find out more about leaving a gift in your Will, or to discuss how you would like us to acknowledge your gift, please contact us. You can also choose to remain anonymous.
Amending an existing Will
In some cases, you can amend your existing Will with a codicil (an additional legal document that modifies or adds to an existing Will). You can also change your Will by making a new one.
Ask your solicitor about the best option for including the ANPC in your Will.
